NY-based Dataminr to Acquire Arlington-based ThreatConnect
Arlington, Va. – Dataminr, the New York City-based threat and risk intelligence firm, announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Arlington-based ThreatConnect, a cybersecurity and intelligence management company. The deal values ThreatConnect at $290 million.

Fulton-Based New Markets Venture Partners Leads Second Round for Knack
Fulton, Md. – New Markets Venture Partners (NMVP), a Fulton-based venture capital firm focused on education and workforce technology, said it has led a new round of funding for Miami-based Knack, the developer of a technology platform that lets higher education institutions power peer learning programs. Financial terms of the company’s second round were not disclosed. Robb Doub, general partner at NMVP, will join Knack’s board of directors. In a related move, the company has named Megan Dusenbery as its new CEO, with founding CEO Samyr Qureshi transitioning to the role of executive chairman. Dusenbery most recently served as chief partnerships officer at the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), and previously held senior roles at Kaplan, including senior vice president of higher education.
University of Maryland, Baltimore to Build AI-Powered Surgical Education Center
Baltimore – The University of Maryland, Baltimore said it will partner with California-based Axis Research & Technologies to build a 36,000-square-foot “smart” surgical education center in Baltimore. The center, to be constructed beginning next year, will use an AI-enabled platform from Omnimed designed to integrate real-time data and performance analytics into surgical environments. Mark Gladwin, dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, said the project will “pave the way to a future of medical education and medical-surgical device development.” Axis currently operates advanced training and research facilities in four U.S. locations, including Columbia.
Heven AeroTech Opens New Headquarters in Sterling
Sterling, Va. – Heven AeroTech, a developer of hydrogen-powered drones, said it has opened its new headquarters in Sterling. The company, which has based its East Coast operations in Dulles, said the facility at 45240 Business Ct. will serve as its hub for technology development and customer engagement. Heaven said the opening will create 150 new jobs nationwide, including 40 in Sterling, and strengthen its partnerships across the defense, public safety and government sectors.
“Our Sterling facility allows us to scale production, strengthen collaboration with mission partners and deliver the most advanced unmanned systems to operators,” said Michael Buscher, the company’s president of U.S. operations.
Linthicum Heights-Based Rampart Communications Names New CEO
Linthicum Heights, Md. – Rampart Communications, a Linthicum Heights-based developer of advanced radios and waveform technologies used in national security, has named Omar Javaid as its new CEO. Javaid succeeds Matt Ball, who had served as interim CEO, and Aaron Correa, who served as senior executive. Javaid most recently served as the CEO of Spectra7, an analog semiconductor company, and earlier was president of the API platform at Vonage.

(Richmond, Va.) Richmond-based Hyper Solutions, a manufacturer of digital infrastructure, has named Lisa Price as its CFO. Price began working with the company earlier this year as a strategic advisor, and previously held senior positions at GE, Alvarez & Marsal, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.
(McLean, Va.) D-Fend Solutions, an Israeli developer of radio-frequency counter-drone takeover technology with North American headquarters in McLean, has named retired Air Force General Glen VanHerck to its advisory board. VanHerck retired from the Air Force in 2024 after serving as commander of U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
