Tysons-Based RegScale Raises $30 Million in Second Round
Tysons, Va. – RegScale, a Tysons-based developer of cybersecurity technology designed to protect critical infrastructure and high-value assets, said it has raised over $30 million in its second round of funding, led by Washington Harbour Partners. New investors M12, Hitachi Ventures, and Ankona Capital, as well as previous backers SYN Ventures and SineWave Ventures also participated in the round. RegScale will use a portion of the funds to make key hires across R&D and sales, accelerating its expansion into energy, utilities and other highly regulated sectors.
“CISOs are faced with ensuring the systems that keep our country running can withstand increasingly sophisticated cyber threats,” said Travis Howerton, the co-founder and CEO of RegScale. “This funding allows us to double down: scaling our go-to-market team, expanding our platform capabilities and accelerating our pace of innovation.”
College Park-Based IonQ Completes One Acquisition, Announces Another
College Park, Md. – Continuing its recent flurry of M&A deals, College Park-based IonQ, a developer of quantum computing and networking systems, said it will acquire Silicon Valley-based Vector Atomic, a developer of quantum sensors for positioning, navigation and timing. The company said the all-stock transaction will accelerate its entry into the quantum sensing market and strengthen its full-stack quantum platform. The news comes as IonQ also completed its $1.1 billion acquisition of UK-based counterpart Oxford Ionics. IonQ said that move will expand its presence into Europe and Asia, while adding on-trap technology manufactured on standard semiconductor chips. IonQ has made a series of big moves in recent months. They include securing a majority stake in ID Quantique, and acquiring Qubitekk, Capella Space and Lightsynq Technologies.
Baltimore-Based Rooted Wins Top Prize in Catalyst 2025 Program
Baltimore – Rooted, the Baltimore-based developer of a mobile platform for mortgage readiness, has won the top prize in the CTIA Wireless Foundation Catalyst 2025 program. The competitive grants program recognizes social entrepreneurs using 5G and wireless to address challenges in American communities. Rooted’s platform aims to help individuals become first-time homebuyers by connecting them to expert coaching via text messaging. Catalyst also awarded finalists Uprooted Academy with a $50,000 grant, and CareHome Health Solutions and CareMessage each with $25,000 grants. Three additional finalists – Alva Health, My First Nest Egg and Novobeing – were each awarded Honorable mention grants of $10,000.
Reston-Based Hitachi Vantara Federal Names Majed Saadi as CTO
Reston, Va. – Hitachi Vantara Federal, a Reston-based division of the Japanese technology conglomerate providing data tools to the federal government, has named Majed Saadi as its new CTO. He succeeds Gary Hix, who left the company in December and now served as the public sector CTO of Virtual Service Operations. Saadi previously served as the vice president of growth and technology at Synergy, and earlier was a vice president at General Dynamics IT. Hitachi Vantara Federal offers a range of hybrid cloud and data fabric products to the U.S. military and federal agencies.

(Gaithersburg, Md.) Gaithersburg-based GeneDx, a developer of genetic tests and AI technology used to provide personalized medical care, has named Thomas Fuchs to its board of directors. Fuchs is the senior vice president and chief AI officer at Eli Lilly and Company.
(Arlington, Va.) Teledyne FLIR Defense, a unit of Teledyne Technologies that provides technology and systems for military, security and public safety clients, said it has opened a new office in the Crystal City area of Arlington. The office is located 1550 Crystal Drive.
(Fairfax, Va.) Fairfax-based 3Pillar, a provider of product and application engineering services focused on AI, has named Mike Salfity and Mike Kucharski, to its board of directors. Salfity, who will serve as executive chairman, is the CEO of Mobileum, and Kucharski Mobileum’s chief revenue officer.
